“..this song is not a rebel song, this song is Sunday Bloody Sunday…”

As a kid, I listened to a lot of punk and new wave (The Clash, The Cure, Depeche Mode, etc..) and one of my favorite drummers was Larry Mullen of U2.  Love that “Sunday Bloody Sunday” drum intro…  I’d borrow and play all their records until eventually I was able to get my own cassette copies (yes, cassette tapes!).  On weekends, I would wait for the band’s music videos (Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day and With or Without You – at that time) to be shown on TV.

Also back then, one of the first 2 basslines I learned to play was “With or Without You”.  4 chords!  (the other song I learned was “Sex and Violence” by the Exploited, 3-chord pattern, hehe).

Anyway, fast forward to last night, I got a pair of tickets from my older sister to see U2 at the Rose Bowl – for FREE!!

I was with my good friend (and concert buddy), Lille, who was also a first-time U2 concert goer and was as excited as me.  We parked in downtown Pasadena – where parking lot rates were hiked up for the event (grrr!), luckily found a spot quick, and, along with a bunch of “hikers”, made our way to the Bowl.

Lonely potato (at the bottom of a sack of potatoes trying not to get eaten) A poem by Soozanna

Lonely potato (at the bottom of a sack of potatoes trying not to get
eaten)
A poem by Soozanna

All I want to do is sprout
I don’t want to pout
Only to be served with kraut
I just want to get out

I was at the bottom of the sack
Every day fighting attack
All the others in the pack
Just keep to the back

Spud boy I am to Devo
Thinking of days long ago
Then dug up by a hoe
If only I could go back, now I know

If I sprout they’ll throw me away
Leave me in the trash to decay
But then I can sprout, sprout I may
Oh, I hope for the day

Winning the store pre-liminary drum off was a surprise since I totally spaced out.  The hi-hat fell on me and I let that mess my concentration.  With other things I prefer not mention that are going on in my mind, concentration was not a top priority but to instead finish out the solo and hopes the MC would make the hi-hat stand sturdy!   I am currently in the works to come up with an awesome drum solo that will astound and wow.  I am currently losing weight since we don’t want a chubby ninja.   Hope to see ya this Thursday at 7:00 for the Store Finals at the Guitar Center in Pasadena and/or at the Good Hurt this Saturday at 9:00pm!

Caliginous, has spoken.

Take care, all

Small Recap of the weekend

October 5, 2009 · Posted in News · Comment

I’m still recovering from the show last night. I think I over did just a little, but that’s what happens when you have a big stage to play on.  I also want to thank Evertheory and Dig Jelly for putting on a very awesome show.  It was nice to be able to share the stage with such great people and musicians.  Big props to everyone that help donate money for the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. Even if it’s a little it goes a long way.

I think the best part about what I do besides being able to play in front of everyone is being able to watch other bands play for free.  I sometimes wonder from the many bands that we share the stage with if any of them are going to make it big.  It would be a nice story to share my kids some day that I shared the stage with so in so.
I think there was some really good energy going on last night’s show.  I think we all felt it from the start and just kicked it up into high gear from the first song.  Unfortunately for me I think I drained my energy after 3 songs.  I think this was the first time in a while I thought we were playing a lot of songs.  Normally I would think the shows are so short because I had so much energy left over in the end.  After this show I was clearly tired. If you guys saw me after the show last night I was pretty much out of it.
I wish I could say more about the show last night but to be honest I was so tired that I just can’t remember anything off the top of my head right now.

Our next show will be in a couple weeks at the Good Hurt so I hope to see everyone there. My friend just lent me uncharted this weekend so I’m about to go play now.

See ya later
